Today a new postfix relay on a CentOS 7 was broken, i’ve check the log /var/log/maillog and i found

postfix/smtp[16074]: fatal: open lock file pid/unix.smtp: cannot open file: Permission denied
postfix/smtpd[16075]: fatal: open lock file pid/inet.smtp: cannot open file: Permission denied
postfix/master[2140]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/smtp pid 16074 exit status 1
postfix/master[2140]: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/smtp: bad command startup -- throttling

The solution is quite simple, i’ve noticed that SELinux was enforcing the system, after disable, postfix was able to relay mails again !

setenforce 0

# For a permanent fix, edit the config file and set SELINUX to disabled
vim /etc/selinux/config

SELINUX=disabled
